Havening Techniques ® are a type of psychosensory therapy, meaning you apply a sensory touch to produce an electro-chemical response in the brain. This can heal and positively alter the psyche. This remarkable alternative psychological therapy is fast, reliable and effective and it can change your brain chemistry and remove encoded markers (AMPA Receptors) in the amygdala. Havening relies on activating Pacinian corpuscles, which are nerve endings located on certain parts of our skin. When gentle pressure is applied to them, they generate Delta waves in the brain. These brain waves are very calming and help soothe anxious feelings, which have a positive effect on the limbic system. These structures in the brain are linked with instinct and mood and are considered to be the interface between emotional states and memories.
Havening works with the Amygdala, one of the components of the limbic system, to change the electrochemical landscape of the brain to de-traumatize the memory and remove its negative effects from both our psyche and body.
